LICENSE AND REGISTRATION MENU

LICENSE RENEWAL

You can easily get your license renewed even after the expiry. It is compulsory for anyone who wants to drive a vehicle on public roads to hold a valid driving license. It is imperative to have the driving license renewed to be able to continue using a vehicle.

LICENSE AND REGISTRATION

The registration creates a link between you and the car. You are registered to the car and the car is registered to the location. You’re connected, for better or worse

BUSINESS REGISTRATION

Before any company can register a vehicle to their name, it is required to obtain a BRN certificate

CHANGE OF PERSONAL ADDRESS

One of the most commonly required address changes relates to vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses. This is an easily overlooked task, but every state requires you to update your address after any move, typically within thirty days. This is so for a number of reasons, most relating to being able to locate you.

Introduction To Systems

DECEASED ESTATES – POA

A deceased estate comes into existence when a person dies and leaves property or a will. Such an estate must then be administered and distributed in terms of the deceased’s will or, if there is no valid will, in terms of the Intestate Succession Act (Act 81 of 1987).

HANDING IN OF YELLOW FORM

In terms of Regulation 53 of the National Road Traffic Act, no person may buy, sell, or trade with an unregistered or unlicensed vehicle. The vehicle’s licensing status is verified by the NATiS (Certificate of Registration) form – your car’s ID document, as it were.

ROADWORTHY

You must have your motor vehicle tested for roadworthiness before you register it in your name. If your motor vehicle is used for public transport or is a heavy-load vehicle (excluding buses), you must take it to be tested for roadworthiness every year before you renew the motor vehicle licence. A bus must be tested for roadworthiness every six months.

IMPORT VEHICLE – POA

You can only import a second-hand vehicle into South Africa if you have been granted a permit to do so. The importation of used vehicles is restricted to protect the local motor vehicle manufacturing industry.

Permits are only issued under specifically defined circumstances. Mainly returning South African nationals and immigrants who have permanent residence are permitted to bring vehicles registered in their names into the country. Other cars that may be imported include racing cars, vintage passenger vehicles, specially designed vehicles and inherited vehicles.

TEMPORARY PERMITS

A temporary motor vehicle permit is valid for 21 days and is used for a motor vehicle that is registered, licenced and roadworthy. A temporary permit is used under the following circumstances:

Delivering the vehicle within the Republic to the owner, Delivering the vehicle within the Republic by or to a motor dealer, or Registering and licensing purposes Only one permit is issued per vehicle ownership. A special motor vehicle permit is valid for three days only.

A special motor vehicle permit is used under the following circumstances: Testing such motor vehicle; Proceeding to or returning from a place within the Republic where repairs are to be or have been effected to such motor vehicle; Reaching an examiner of vehicles or mass measuring apparatus; or Repossessing such motor vehicle as contemplated in regulation 69 It is important to note that a vehicle with a special permit may not carry goods or passengers.

There is no limit to the number of permits that can be issued per ownership.

APPLICATION FOR TRAFFIC REGISTRAION

A traffic register number is the main identification number accepted for road traffic transactions on the eNaTIS for foreigners and organisations that serves as a non-legal person. If you are a foreigner and not yet registered on the eNaTIS (National Transport Information System) and you want to buy or register a motor vehicle in South Africa, you must produce your foreign identification document to be introduced onto the eNaTIS.

NUMBER OF PLATES

A vehicle’s license plate is also known as a number plate or registration plate. It is a metal plate attached to the car/bike with its registration number embossed on it.

As per the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, it is mandatory for all vehicles running in public places to have a registration number approved by a registering authority. After the registration process is complete, a number plate is assigned to the vehicle, which is known as the official number plate. Every number plate is unique and no other vehicle across the nation will or can have the same number plate.

The license plate has four different parts, each with a specific purpose.
